Born and partly raised in Latvia, I made the move to the UK at 15.
My career in the film industry began as a unit set photographer (a great and well hidden entry point for those new to the industry — try it if you starting out!). I spent the next few years training and assisting, climbing the ladder until I became a director of photography. It's been over a dozen years now.
This year my journey took a significant turn when I got the call from Kevin Macdonald (a director whose films like ‘The Last King of Scotland’ and ‘Touching the Void’ I watched and studied in my early 20s). His offer: to shoot and co-direct the next film. So I did.
The result — Klitschko: More Than a Fight opened the Sheffield DocFest 2024 and is currently streaming on Sky, with its U.S. opening coming in October.
